Dough EV
Branding, Illustration, Web Design
As a vegan with a sweet tooth, this was an absolute dream to work on: Dough EV is a vegan-friendly donut + coffee shop in the Old East Village neighbourhood of London, Ontario. Owner and head baker Tara reached out to me after being introduced to my illustration work at the Punk Rock Flea Market, so we knew that illustration was going to play a big part in the shop’s visual identity.
In addition to a huge collection of illustrated icons – that I worked into packaging, social media, and a massive mural – I also created a playful, funky logo suite that drew inspo from the retro California donut shops and appealed to both the artsy neighbourhood community and the family-friendly space Tara wanted to cultivate.
Visual Identity
Illustrated Icons
The Dough EV icon collection consists of over 20 different icons, with many in different variants (or flavours, if you will.) The full set is over 50 pieces, and includes multiple styles of donuts, tools + ingredients, the shop’s iconic coffee machine, and a turnip – an ode to The Root Cellar, a neighbourhood favourite cafe that used to operate out of the storefront where Dough Ev now lives. I used these on a wide variety of pieces for the shop, including social media assets, signange, a colouring sheet, an 8 by 7ft mural, and across the website.
Web Design
The Dough EV website was built on Sociavore, a really platform that was intentionally designed for restaurants and other food-based businesses. Sociavore gave us a bunch of useful features, including the ability for customers to build their own donut box from any of the available flavours – a surprisingly tricky feat, given how Ontario taxes food.
